The only thing that's kind of throwing me off on this story is that, if they get it May 17th ... are they gonna have a new updated model released in June over there?

Doesn't make much sense if you ask me, unless:

(A) the date is wrong.

(B) they will get the newer (Summer) model speculated by many, 'later'

(C) maybe no new model (I find this unlikely)

(D) maybe a new model is coming mid-may, leaving WWDC strictly for Leopard and 3.0

Anyone wanna add?...

Thanks.

What I find interesting is from this previous link

It states that the iPhone has MMS in the English translation. Therefore the phones being released would have to have 3.0 software. So what's up with that? 3.0 being rolled out in May?

Also I find it interesting that Chinese officials do not allow WiFi on mobile phones. This means that they will have to have a different OS then we do, allowing the WiFi option to be permanently locked.

Very interesting stuff going on.

I find this to be very possible. They get the current 3G model in May and the 2009 model in November or something like that.

There are SO many people in that country they can sell a ton to the folks who don't care about that and then still sell a ton more in the fall to the folks who do care about stuff like that.
