Both my mom and dad are trying to read... she says that it roughly says, "from a far away place someone came over and the red of sunset was reflected."

She says that the writings not terrific and that it doesn't make too much sense.

Haha, my parents have left to go to work... but I know what they are!

They're called "chops" and they should be the artist's signature if you will. It's usually their name or nickname or whatever.

I dunno, the English word for them is just "chops."

And I'm not sure if one is for the studio or whatnot.

I thought that sometimes owners and/or people who comission the artwork also apply their chops...

I know I have my chop around here somewhere....

^^ Could be.

I have two chops, one w/ my full name, one w/ my nickname. Plus, one is just a little piece of wood, the other one is this ornate deal (too bad the animal on top of the handle part doesn't correspond to my zodiac animal :p).

'course I'm only Chinese by marriage...

IIRC this is another place where size matters and the larger the chop the more improtant the person... Right?

^^ I really don't know. Makes me sad though, since my chops are pretty small. I wonder where they are... hmm... Now I wanna go find them!

I tried makin my own but it doesn't have the same feel..

I also remember reading somewhere that the more number of seals an artwork have, the more valuable it is [must be because it changed owners so many times, outbidders?] could be wrong though because I don't remember where did I read it
