Decided to edit my op for the sake of clarity. I have a less than a month old rMBP and i'm already seeing the aluminum finish start to chip. There's one small chip on the left hand side that just crumbled off when i wiped the area down, and another, larger, chip/gouge on the lid if the notebook that came from some minor tapping done by a plastic pen.

Normally i'd chalk it up to wear and tear, but the notebook is almost new and i'm quite positive that it should be able to withstand minor impacts from a blunt plastic pen cap.

I've heard that the finish on the unibody macs has been a problem in the past. What i'm curious about is whether or not apple actually does repairs/re-casings in this situation. I've already explained the issue to a customer support rep and filed a repair request, but i don't want to deal with the hassle of sending it in and losing my computer for a week, just to have them send it back without doing anything.

Initially i was just going to buy a snap on case and be done with it, but i'm concerned that this issue is only going to get worse as time goes on.

Any feedback would be appreciated.
