My 2011 macbook air which I've owned from new has started chirping/squealing whilst loading websites - mainly ones which are graphics intensive. Really annoying!

Presume this is the GPU ? Can anything be done and is it something to be concerned about ?

Thanks.

Most likely "coil whine" from one of the switching supplies. Basically, the windings in one of the coils has gotten a little loose, and you hear it sort of like a speaker when under heavy load. Sometimes a capacitor will be the culprit (acting like an electrostatic speaker). Not likely to be a problem with the GPU unless you're also seeing visual artifacts.

Most likely a worn fan dude. Run something intensive, like encoding a video, and disable display monitoring then u would know.

It's not the fan - that runs fine.

It's a high pitch noise, occasional chirp - must be a GPU coil/cap. I'll have to save up for an upgrade!
