Hello,

I had my child's chocolate Milk spill all over my iPhone Pro Max while in a speck case. It got in the usb charging port and speakers a little.

It should be fine right? So far no noticeable damage, I just know it's suppose to be water resistant but wasn't sure if Milk would fry it.

I cleaned and tried to dry it right away.

Your phone is waterproof... wash in running water to rinse off the sugar

At least it didn’t fall in the toilet. People used to come sob about that on here!

I think you’ll be fine. It’s a tough phone.

Monitor it. The fact that it reached inside the charging port would be my biggest concern. If you notice any abnormalities with the phone starting to overheat or charging issues and/or if the speakers become distorted, powered it off and take it to Apple to assess from there.

Lightning port is waterproof. Was revealed when Apple released the specifications for the MFI accessories and revealed this years before water resistant phones came into play with the 5S people thought it was stupid because the phone itself wasn’t but there’s usually a plan for the future.

Phone should be fine, Apple specifically said they tested all kind of liquids and drinks on the phones besides getting the water resistant specification.

I don’t disagree. Aside from the spill itself, it would be the stickiness from the sugar, which alone poses its own problem versus just being water.

In these types of instances, acting quickly/efficiently to clean the phone as quickly as possible, makes a huge difference if the phone survives.

Lightning port is waterproof

It is waterproof, or at least water resistant, but by its very nature it can't handle conductive contaminants that may short the pins. Apple says you should inspect the port for contamination and ensure it is clean and completely dry before use.

That's why the EarPods and the 3.5 adapter have a little rubber gasket around the connector, to avoid salty sweat from getting into it while in use.

What should I do if my iPhone gets wet?
  1. If a liquid other than water splashes on your iPhone, rinse the affected area with tap water.
  2. Wipe your iPhone off with a soft, lint-free cloth—for example, a lens cloth.
Make sure that your iPhone is dry before opening the SIM tray.
To dry your iPhone, tap it gently against your hand with the Lightning connector facing down to remove excess liquid. Leave your iPhone in a dry area with some airflow. Placing your iPhone in front of a fan blowing cool air directly into the Lightning connector might help the drying process.
Don't dry your iPhone using an external heat source or insert a foreign object, such as a cotton swab or a paper towel, into the Lightning connector.

You can drop it in a pond of chocolate milk and it’ll be fine. Just rinse off any grainy sugar. My mother accidentally dropped hers in her cup of soda and it was just fine.

Don‘t worry about it. My iPhone 7 accidentally spent 10 minutes in a washing machine (35°C cycle). Came out looking super clean. The only real problem for a few hours afterwards was the speaker sound distortion (while the water was drying off). Apart from that - no issues whatsoever. The wash happened in June and I just swapped its battery at Apple store, during which the iPhone was put through a hardware test - nothing wrong with it. iPhone 11 Pro is much more water resistant than 7, so just clean it and do not charge it until it dries out.

The Max is neither waterproof nor water resistant. What it technically is, based on Apple's position on water ingress is: "maybe water resistant"

No, it has a water resistance rating of IP68. Apple has commercials of people taking pictures while being splashed with water for crap's sake.

Same for my wife's 7. The camera was weird, but we took it to Staples, they ran it through the drying machine, and it was good as new again.

If you don't have AppleCare+ and your IP68 rated phone gets damaged from getting it wet or submersing it Apple will tell you to beat sand.. There have been numerous thread on this forum describing this exact scenario and it states in the warranty that water damage isn't covered.

Totally was expecting this to be a “Thatiphonekid” thread. Pleasantly surprised. I would just carefully rinse it with tap water.

Yes, Apple is stupid in regards to water damage. That doesn’t mean the phone isn’t water resistant.

Didn't they talk about testing it against beer splashes or something during the keynote? or in the commercials? I vaguely recall something like that. 🤔
