Firstly, o2 are only going to be able to give you a number that they have been assigned, they can't give you other peoples numbers, so you need to find someone/a company that owns the number you want and get them to release it to O2 (very unlikely), and the number that they have has been assigned to a SIM card already.

Secondly, at least some of the info you have is wrong. My 078* number was given to me by Orange, not Vodafone. EDIT: On second inspection, it seems that you mean that the particular 078 number is Vodafone, not all 078 numbers.

That table its totally wrong just to tell you my number is 07845****** and it was given by 02 and on your table it says vodaphone.02 will give you a number you do'nt tell them what number you want lol:p

the first 3 digits of a number are the operator number, they are linked to the operator, well its changed now due to number porting. you can not change them. you can however pick your own number alot of the time, vodafone call them gold numbers. im presuming that this is the same in the uk as it is here in ireland.

ring your service provider and tell them you want to choose a number, if its available you should be able to get it, dunno if they charge you tho

they do let you choose, its extra work for them, and they usually only do it for business customers, but if you can be persuasive they should do it. try putting the request in writing to them.

ive had loads of chosen numbers, xxx7007 007, xxx3335333, xxx3335000.

the xxx refers to the network it was on, which i dont want to publish! :p
