I have a 12" iBook G4 (1.33 ghz, 1gb, combo, Tiger, from mid-2005) with a dying hard drive. I found a shop that will replace the drive for $75 labor, which is a bargain for an iBook.
I'm currently comparing hard drives for it. Unfortunately, Ultra ATA laptop drives are disappearing rapidly. Originally, I wanted to put in a 7200 RPM drive, but they aren't easily available anymore. So the next best thing is a 5400 RPM drive.
After checking reviews, it's between the Seagate Momentus 5400.3, with a five year warranty, and the Hitachi 5K160, with a three year warranty (both are 160gb/8mb buffer ATA drives with perpendicular recording heads). At OWC, the Hitachi costs $63 after a $10 rebate and the Seagate costs $83. It's important to me to get something that's reliable, so hopefully, I won't have to replace the drive again during the iBook's usable life. I'd like to get a few more years out of it -- which is why I'm not considering any Western Digital drives! So...

Which is better: Seagate, Hitachi, or does it make a difference?

If you picked the Seagate, do you think it's worth $20 more than the Hitachi?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.
