I have priced a black Macbook, Macbook Air, and a 15" Macbook Pro. All came out to be about the same price. I am a developer in search of a new laptop. Any reccomendations?

Yeah. You can tell us what you currently do and plan to use the computer for. Also will this be your main computer?

If so, you probably want to choose either MB/MBP.

MBA and a Firewire external drive (Sarcasm). MBP is the way to go if you use your computer as a main machine. MB or MBA are fine for secondaries.

I have an iMac as my main machine. I will use the laptop for writing code.

Now-a-days, there really is no difference between the Macbook and Macbook Pro aside from bigger display and video card. Unless you do advanced 3D stuff, gaming or want a bigger screen...Macbook is perfectly fine.

My vote is for MB.

Since you already have a main computer, MB should be sufficient for your portable needs. Go for MBP if your requirements are a larger screen, dedicated video card, and matte screen.

MBs are a little more portable, lighter and also very durable. Not to mention also cheaper than MBPs.

Air

If you've got an iMac to do all the hard work, why not get an air?

I expect it's more than capable of doing what you need it for, and if not, then you've got an iMac waiting to be used.

I suggest a macbook unless you need extreme graphics power or a bigger screen. Having owned both, I feel that graphics performance aside, they both perform about the same. Some people on here seem to think that slapping the word "pro" onto the computer name makes it a vastly superior machine and that the macbook is obselete...

I think I tend to agree. I just reconfigured all 3 and the black Macbook is 500 dollars cheaper then the 15" pro. I cannot see the extra 500.00 just for a graphics card.
