I'm having a hard time choosing between a Macbook Pro 17" 2.93GHZ and an iMac 24" 3.06 MHZ. I never really go anywhere except a vacation every now and then in the summer. So which one do you think would be the best choice for me?

If you don't need portability the iMac is cheaper and more powerful. Well actually it's cheaper and more powerful whether you need portability or not. If you do need portability though the MBP would be your best bet.

I used to have a desktop, because the price got me better hardware for less money. Because I had my iPhone, e-mailing wasn't a problem. However, I realized that when I went on vacation that I missed having my computer with me--especially when I took pictures. I'd take all these pictures, but had nowhere to upload them to.
If you're a photographer or want to keep in touch when you're away on vacation, you should get the MBP. If these don't apply to you, go for the iMac.

Good luck.

iMac

Go with an iMac, especially because you have an iPhone already. If you take lots of vacation photos, get a large memory card, and share them with others after you get back.

iMac, definitely. You shouldn't really be using a computer that much on a vacation. It's all about relaxing and going out! :p :D

I am going to say iMac as well. Buying a 17 in MBP is a little over the top if you don't need to take it anywhere.

As a further suggestion, if you feel that you may need portability that your iPhone doesn't satisfy, you could go for a slightly lower-specced iMac and purchase a netbook too (install osx!)
