choosing contacts durring sync

I sync my iphone with outlook through itunes. it works fine but when a conflict is found I get a dialog box allowing me to accept or stop sync. at one point (maybe after an update to iTunes) i was getting a box to actually choose which version of the contact or cal event i wanted to keep. you could view both records and choose the one you want. This no longer happens and all I get is the conflict box, sometimes i overwrite the contact i wanted to keep blindly. how can I view and choose the one i want to keep. - thanks
