Choppy Window Opening for Application's Window via Grid mode

Hello all,
So I've permanently inserted my application folder into my dock (above the trash can), and I've set it's display to the grid mode. When I click the icon, however, its display is very choppy. My machine is the new 2.0ghz Macbook. Does anyone else experience this, and can there be anything done about it other than switch to list mode?
