I have always used the bare bones chroma key in FCP to do chroma key stuff, but recently got a new (used) computer that had After Effects left over on it.

I have always been told that FCP was the absolute worst for chroma keying, so I am wondering:
-Just how much more effective is the AE chroma key?
-Are there any tips or tricks that will help me get the cleanest key in AE?
-Any free plugins?

Thanks guys!

I don't think it's Final cut that is bad at chroma key, it's that DV video was always so bad.

Maybe I'm naive, but I would think if you have your lighting right, chroma keying should be a no brainer on FCP.

Yeah

I agree 100%, I have always used FCP and have gotten acceptable keys, I just figured that if AE was in the equation I might as well learn to use that.

In After Effects look to see if they have "KeyLight" installed. Its a pretty good chroma key. I've used it to repair many bad keys that I have received from various clients.

FCP sucks with chromakey, but motion and the Primatte RT filter are pretty awesome. In fact, I find I often use it with the default settings and never need to change it.
