chrome and gifs

Gifs slow down chrome and occasionally freeze tabs for me. Is this a problem with mac chrome in particular?

Anyone else suffer from this issue, and if so, how do you get around it?

I know I'm not the only person that has this problem, but I also know that other people who use chrome dont always have the problem. Anyone know?
