chrome asks for contacts

I was happily browsing today and google chrome attempted to access my contacts. I know i may be paranoid but I've been making changes in the way i use my computer to protect my privacy. I don't really like ANY application accessing my contacts and potentially sending them to their server. Would anyone happen to know why chrome need to access my contacts? Note, i wasn't filling out any forms so auto-fill wasn't being used.

I was just browsing the web and had clicked to type in a text box when Chrome requested access to my contacts. I can't think of a reason why Google Chrome would need access to my contacts. Any ideas?

Probably so that Google can send spam to everyone in your contact list. Oh, and track them.

lol, I mean if I thought that giving Chrome access to my contacts would make the app work differently/better for me I would have no problem with it. As of yet, I can not think of any gained functionality by giving such access to Chrome. So that leads me to ask why Google Chrome requests access to my contacts at all?

FYI, the reason why Chrome prompts to access your Address Book is for autofilling forms. There is a setting to include info from your address card. It probably will not prompt if you have not enabled this feature. – Gerry
