Google today outlined several new features available for or coming to the Chrome app for the iPhone and iPad, including deeper integration with Google Maps, Google Calendar, and Google Lens.

Chrome for iOS now uses AI to detect addresses on webpages and show a location directly on a mini version of the Google Maps app in Chrome, so there's no need to swap apps to see map-related information about a search term.

Google Calendar events can be created directly in Chrome without needing to swap apps. Chrome users can press and hold on a detected date and choose the option to add it to Google Calendar. The Chrome app will automatically create and populate the calendar event with time, location, and description.

Google has expanded the translation functionality in Chrome, and it is now possible to highlight a specific passage and long press to get a translation right in the Chrome Browser.

With upcoming deeper Google Lens integration, Chrome users will be able to use the camera to search new pictures and pictures in the camera roll to identify plants, translate languages, and more. The Lens icon will show up in the Chrome on iOS address bar.

Chrome for the iPhone and the iPad can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

Goddamn google, stop release stuff for apple first lol

Still don't have YouTube 1080p premium on Android , hopefully this new chrome comes in 3 months to android ?

No chatGPT app either ...

Not that I personally care or want anything to do with chrome…but I’m curious how many of the google haters still use google as their default browser on safari 😂

You mean default "search engine"?

I have DuckDuckGo set as my default, but still *always* go to Google manually to do searches. The results are just more reliable when in Private Browsing mode. DuckDuckGo does have their own browser that remembers your regional settings, so that helps a bit, but I always forget to use it.

The number one thing I wish more browsers would implement on iOS (iPad specifically) is a proper bookmarks/favorites toolbar. Safari is the only one that offers one out of the major browsers - I have to dig through multiple taps to get to my bookmarks in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox on iPad. Haven't tried the smaller browsers to see if they offer that functionality. Feature requests to the Chrome and Firefox boards have fallen on deaf ears.

I use Startpage…. And Firefox. I know very few people who use google search anymore.

No thanks, but I know several people that use it.

How about reading mode?
I noticed that DuckDuckGo doesn’t have a reading mode. Chrome doesn’t either? Now I’m wondering if that’s reserved for Safari or of the developers just haven’t gotten around to it.

Google hater here. I use DuckDuckGo in Safari.

I understand that no matter what my phone is identifiable online if anyone REALLY wants to locate me, and that Google is imbedded in all kinds of websites, just like Facebook, but for whatever reason, minimizing Google’s reach that much more satisfies me.
