Hey, I used the app Pictogram to set custom dark icons on MacOS.

Somehow, I accidentally set Chrome a system folder... and it won't change back.

I've even deleted and reinstalled Chrome.

Each time I delete the icon and either restore the original or add a new icon it switches back.

How on earth do I fix this?

Try this...

1) Open your Applications folder

2) Select the Chrome icon

3) Select File > Get Info

4) Select the little icon in the top left corner of the Get Info window

5) Press the delete key on your keyboard

That is weird. Is there a chrome setting to customize the icon? Another idea–delete the app and reinstall it. (Or move to another browser that's Chromium based but not Chrome, like the privacy-focused Brave)

Remove Chrome from the Dock, delete Chrome, delete the custom pictogram from ~/Library/Application Support/com.NeilSardesai.Pictogram/Custom Icons/com.google.Chrome, reinstall Chrome from https://chromeenterprise.google/download/ and add it to the Dock.

To delete the custom icon from Terminal:
Code:
rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/com.NeilSardesai.Pictogram/Custom\ Icons/com.google.Chrome

Hey, thanks for this detailed advice.

Unfortunately, there is no 'com.NeilSardesai.Pictogram' folder in Library/ApplicationSupport

Any idea why?

Just checking, you looked into the library folder of your user account (like /Users/Alex/Library/Application Support) and not the system one (/Library/Application Support)?

Anyway, if Pictogram is not running and you have reinstalled Chrome, it should appear in Finder with its normal icon. After log out/log in or restart, even the Dock icons should be refreshed.

Thanks everyone.

I used Appcleaner to blast away all associated files.

I then found that Pictogram did this a SECOND time.

So I blasted away with Appcleaner again once the Chrome icon was switched.

Now it's stayed in place.

I think there is something weird with Chrome.

Another similiar app called 'Replacicon' cannot change the Chrome icon.
