Chrome keeps checking my email server...

Today I noticed something, which I've noticed many times before, but it never registered - Chrome is constantly checking my email server but:

- I don't utilize Gmail in any way for my email
- I use Mail to check email

I have no idea what's going on. Anybody have a similar experience and/or know what might be happening?
