Chromecast audio from Mac OS?

I thought I'd be able to use the Chrome browser to cast music to a Chromecast audio dongle. But although it sees the dongle, it will only cast for a few minutes before going silent. I've used the Chromecast addon for Chrome, and the beta version; no luck.

Any suggestions for what might work?

Casting from iOS apps works fine.
