Chrome's address bar doesn't show address

Hello,
I'm trying to switch from Firefox to Chrome but there is something that I don"t understand in Chrome's address bar. Sometimes it shows the address of the actual page sometimes it does not and it's just empty. This is very annoying when I want to copy/paste the link of the current page.

Could someone explain me the paradigm of this address bar ?
