Cinema display (23") doesn't work anymore

I have a 2006-2008 ACD 23" Aluminium and today I turned it on with my DP > DVI adapter and it won't extend the desktop from my laptop.

The screen just stays blank. Is the monitor toast? Is there a way to reset the ACD? The light on the front stays on but no image.

I would check video out before I would suspect monitor. Try on a different system and such.

Bought a new adapter from Apple and it worked for a second then monitor went away again.

Tried a differnet computer with the DVI to the monitor and it works fine.

It's definitely my Thunderbolt/mDP port on my 2011 MBP
Why are these things so fragile? I do use that port a lot...are there any better solutions? Going to take the MBP to the Genius Bar when I get the time.
