Sorry for my title, it may be a bit vague but I'm in a bit of a dilemma and I wanted to make sure my understanding of the situation was correct.

I have a Mid 2010 MBP 2.66Hz i7. It current only has 4GB of ram and a standard 500HD. I want to upgrade to an SSD and bump my ram to 8GB in addition to getting a display.

I know that the Thunderbolt Display wont work with my MBP, so my only option through Apple is to get the Cinema Display. I'm fine with that, however lets say in the future when I replace my MBP with either a thunderbolt MBP or iMac my Cinema Display will not work daisy chained UNLESS I have another device in between.

Example.

Thunderbolt iMac --> Thunderbolt Hub --> Cinema Display

or

Thunderbolt iMac --> Thunderbolt Display --> Thunderbolt Hub --> Cinema Display.

If that is correct, is there any lag on the Cinema Display? Are there any adapters that would allow me to keep using my Cinema Display in the future with the current and future crop of thunderbolt devices?

I'm not really keen on selling my old equipment, call it a fear of getting ripped off, so as much as I'd like to just cut all of this out and get the new iMac (whenever its released) I know meeting someone and selling my current device isnt going to happen. Thus I'll keep it till it dies (I also have AppleCare on it so if it died I may even get a replacement thats an upgrade from what I have).

Am I missing anything? Am I just better off not getting the Cinema Display and looking for a third party monitor?

Before I spend all this money I want to make sure I'm not backing myself into a corner where this display will be worthless in a couple of years.
