I noticed that the cinema display was backordered at the BestBuy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Mac/Displays/pcmcat128800050008.c?id=pcmcat128800050008). Does this indicate that the cinema display is going to be updated?

Normally, constrained supplies suggest an impending update but I wouldn't pay attention to constrained supplies anywhere but the Apple Store.
Maybe they'll put a DVI connection on the back of the new one...

Yes and no. They could use the PCI part of the TB and install a pci usb adapter in the cinema display, but that would be rather expensive ... so to be honest: it'll take Apple a while before supporting TB in there cinema displays.
