I have the Iphone 5 for verizon and sometimes when I'm in an area of barely any reception, I get a little circle icon on the top instead of my normal 4g lte or 3g. Anyone have a clue?

I believe it means GPRS (for GSM iPhones), or in your case, 1X. I may be wrong. But basically, it is VERY slow data.

That little circle means the iPhone is connected to the 1xRTT network.

When your iPhone displays the 3G icon, its on the EV-DO network, which is more than 10x faster. So pretty much what viper said, very slow data.

You will be able to complete calls and use SMS messaging without problems, I might add.
