Clamshell mode and screen sharing

Quick question I'm struggling to resolve with searching:

I have a Mac Pro for my personal desktop with dual screens so plenty of real estate. I also have a Mac Mini I use as an always-on media server that I connect to from the Pro with screen sharing.

This week, my Windows laptop for work is retiring and I'm replacing it with a MBA 13. I'd like to connect to the MBA when I'm in my home office from the Pro the same as the Mini but would prefer to do this in clamshell mode with the MBA in a vertical stand. Is this possible without a physical monitor connection to the MBA or would it simply sleep?

You can prevent it from sleeping with the lid closed (which isn't technically clamshell mode unless an external display is attached) by installing InsomniaX or InsomniaT (rebuild for SL) (fix for 2011 MPBs)
