I have kindof a dumb question-
Does using the MacBook in clamshell mode for prolonged periods pose a risk of damaging it?

My old MBP screen had the coating peeling etc...I always wondered if this was due to heat from clamshell mode.

Could heat from being in clamshell somehow damage the screen/coatings/backlighting/pixels etc?

Could it cause other damage/wear?

The peeling coating was a very specific issue only on older MacBook Pros. As I understand it, it has nothing to do with running it in clamshell mode. I ran my M1 MacBook Air in clamshell mode all the time and had no issues.

I think the coating peeling is due to dust/dirt on the keyboard coming into contact with the screen. The clearance is so tight that anything on the keyboard can come into contact with the screen and over time takes off the coating.
