Hello,
I have a 2019 MacBook Pro with 5500M video card. I have a 170hz monitor I would like to use for both my macbook and a pc. I have my pc plugged into the display port of the monitor. I would like to use the USB C input for my macbook. I also have a Thunderbolt to HDMI dongle that I can use for my macbook.
Issues. I can plug my macbook into the monitor with USB C and get a picture, I can set the refresh rate up 120Hz, cannot go higher, but if I close my laptop to go into clamshell mode, I lose the monitor signal. If I use the HDMI dongle to drive the monitor, I cannot change the refresh rate above 60Hz, but the monitor will work in clamshell mode.
I would prefer to keep using the USB C input for the monitor, so I can get the higher refresh rate and I would like to skip the extra dongle if possible. I do not understand why the dongle will let me go into clamshell mode but USB C directly into the monitor will not allow this.
Any Ideas?
Thank you.
