Clarence Clemons, the saxophonist in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, whose jovial onstage manner, soul-rooted style and brotherly relationship with Mr. Springsteen made him one of rock’s most beloved sidemen, died Saturday at a hospital in Palm Beach, Fla. He was 69.

The cause was complications from a stroke, which he suffered last Sunday, said a spokeswoman for Mr. Springsteen.

I read about his stroke last week but the reports at the time didn't make it sound that bad. :(

"When the change was made uptown and the big man joined the band"

RIP Big Man.

Saw them live 11 times over the years. One of the greatest live bands ever.

Wow, eleven times! I've seen them only once, but it was once of the best performances I've seen.

RIP, Big Man.

Max Weinberg's manager was a client of my uncle. Was able to get tickets whenever they were in NY or NJ. Also saw them twice while in college upstate NY.

Did my 12 mile bike ride to Clarence's greatest hits this morning.

I was shocked to hear he had a stroke and was extremely sad to hear he died a few days after. The E Street Band is my favorite out of them all, it's not going to be the same with out him.
