When I got my MBP, I found that it takes some effort to close it down. You need to push it hard for the last 1.5 cm before it really close and 'hinged'.

Another way to look at it is when you press and release the hinge, the lid will auto pop up at least 1.5 to 2 cm from the base.

I am wondering whether my lid has problem or all mbps are like that? Don't you think pushing it to close will actually slightly bend the screen? I have no idea why it needs extra effort to close it. Please advise. Thanks!

I don't find that I need to press particularly hard to get the hinge to catch, but the hinge IS supposed to pop up a little when you press the hinge release button - otherwise it would be very difficult to open as there is nothing to grab the top lid by.
