Clean install if you're already OCD?

If a system is already pretty much cruft-free thanks to a user who is downright anal about deleting old junk, is it really that important to make a clean install of OS X when upgrading to Lion? I just... hate getting all of my preferences figured out again.

I don't think it is. I didn't and my MBA works just fine.

ITS NOT. its just like updating 10.5 to 10.6. i am OCD too

The upgrade works fine. Backup and go for it.
