I've searched the forums for this but for some reason my mac doesn't follow the instructions given where ppl are saying there are options when you put the disc in to erase and install.

I put on a master password, but all I really wanted was a password for when I start up my macbook pro or if it goes to sleep and awakes.

I put in my mac os disc and reinstalled it, but the password is still there and so is my wallpaper. I'm guessing it didn't take, but i tried it 2 times now, 45 minutes each time. Am i doing something wrong?

What Mac OSX? Snow?

My guess is that you are installing snow Lep. You can not erase from within the OS if I am not mistaken. To do an erase and install you have to launch it as the boot disc.

disc says 10.6.7 disc version 1.1

if by chance when lion comes out, will that give me a clean install? I don't mind waiting then.
