Is it possible to wipe my umbp (already running 10.6.1) and clean install SL? I have the up-to-date install disk. thanks!

Yes, you can do a full erase and reformat with the up to date DVD. Just put the disk in, restart and hold down the Option key and choose the SL DVD as the startup disk. At the install screen go to the Menu Bar and choose Disk Utility. From there you can choose to do a full erase and reformat.
