Hey folks,

since my Macbook Pro is early 2011 I am relatively new to the OS, here a question regarding the clean install of Lion / backing up apps.
Used the search function but could not find a topic regarding my specs.

I have exchanged the internal Superdrive with an 500 GB HD I use as an internal storage and a 128GB SSD as the system partition.

My question now is if I am on the safe side when I backup to my internal storage HD, wipe the SSD and clean install Lion from an own created bootable USB.
Also - and here is the newbie part - how to back up apps to my storage hd? Is it as easy as pulling the app from the appfolder to the storage hd?
This goes especially for more "complex" applications like Office and Photoshop.

Or can you guys just recommend a "normal" update-installation.
My windows-experience tells me that it usually clutters the OS like hell.

Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!
