Hello there,
I've just tried installing Big Sur on a 128GB Samsung USB 3.1 memory stick for the third time. I have a late 2015 iMac and downloaded the installer and started the process from within Mojave, choosing the USB drive as the destination.
Each time I have hit the same wall. Installation goes on for 15 mins, reboots, takes another 30 mins or so to get to 100 per cent and then goes no further.
If I Hard boot, I get back the the apple logo/progress bar which gets to about 2/5 of the way across and hangs there.
I've reset my PRAM and make sure that I am have no other USB devices plugged in.
I'm rather stuck as to what to try next. I like to install on an external drive first each time to make sure everything works ok.
I am quite happy with Mojave to be honest, but my hand is being forced as I want to upgrade Logic ProX. I Use Garageband on my iPad to sketch out song ideas and then open them in Logic. I can't do that anymore as Garageband is not too high a version for Logic to work with.

So, I need to upgrade but I really don't want to brick my iMac! I also have Bootcamped Windows 10 running nicely on an external drive (not plugged in by the way) and I'd hate for that to mess up too as I use it for work.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
