After installing 5.0.1, I seem to be getting about the same battery level as with 5.0, or maybe even a bit lower. Can anyone confirm that a clean install is needed for the update to take effect?

This is what happened with my iPhone:
1) Receive iPhone on 14th.
2) Clean install multiple times.
3) Install 5.0.1 OTA.
4) Exchange iPhone for one with 5.0.1 preinstalled.

Thanks!

I did wipe and then a DFU restore of 5.0.1 on my launch day 4S yesterday. Set it up as a new phone and manually reinstalled everything (what a pain). So far, my battery life doesn't seem to have been helped at all. In fact, I'd say it's actually a bit worse! I'm trying to hold off judgement though until I can drain it down completely this evening and then charge it fully.

So, the short answer to your question is, no I don't think clean installing 5.0.1 will help much. It looks like Apple simply didn't fix the problem properly with this update. Hope we don't have to wait too long for 5.0.2.
