cleaning harddrive

What do I have to do to completely erase and remove all data on my harddrive so if it was checked their would be no record of any music file or something like that? I though erasing the drive an reinstalling was enough, but do I really need to format it and if so is that enough?

Do a 35-pass erase from the install DVD and let it run for ~1 week.
Your hard drive will never know what hit it.

There is a 35 pass delete on the DVD....
