Hi there,

I had a MacBook Pro with a matte display from 2011 (the silver bezels model). I absolutely loved it, even before retina screens. But cleaning those displays was always a bit of a hassle.

Now, I have a new MBP, and I still clean my display monthly. I find some tiny dots that I can usually get rid of by breathing on it and then using a microfiber cloth. But they still need some rubbing.

I'm curious about the nano texture glass on this MBP. Have any of you already had experience with the iPad or other Apple devices with this type of glass?

Cheers,
Andreas

iPad is done differently to MBP.

MBP is completely etched, whereas I think someone said the iPad was more like a coating or seperate layer.

MBP nano glass requires a special cleaning cloth, and Apple state it must be cleaned dry (no water or alcohol).

For other reasons, I still prefer the gloss. The nano screen left everything looking textured, and affects contrast and saturation.

If you absolutely need the nano, then it looks OK, but otherwise the trade-offs don't look worth it to me.

The nano texture on the iPad Pro isn’t a coating, its also etched into the glass.

You can use a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution to clean the nano texture, as per the instructions on Apple’s website.

Thanks for the link! I'm curious about the term 'infrequent cleaning'. Can it be abrasive if done daily?

Yeah I wondered about this too. I haven't needed to use the solution open my iPad Pro yet, only the cleaning cloth. Its been fine.

Has anyone found a non-Apple set of cloths that are equally effective and safe?

Any non-Apple cloths would need to be of a similar material and feel to the one included with Nano Texture MacBook Pros. Most microfiber cloths could actually damage the coating by getting snagged. I did pick up some knockoffs from Amazon a couple years ago, but I haven't tried to use them with my MacBook yet.

I haven't and am aware I'm not answering your question BUT it's just a one time purchase? The coating is just so sensitive that I personally hate risking using a 3rd party alternative. But that's me as I already had dramas with the first display on my M2.

What happened with the display of the M2?

I babyed it from new, used an electrostatic Swifer to remove dust, inserted the original sheet b/w screen and KB when closed (rarely). About 3 months later many small round concave divets appeared in places.
