Hi guys, i mentioned in another thread that i can see lots of dust through my viewfinder and a member suggested that the dust must be on the focusing screen. After researching the subject i decided to test my nerves and remove the focusing screen of my 400D to clean it up myself.
I've successfully removed it and put it back again 4 times now but i can't seem to get rid of the dust! I use a microfiber cloth and a blower to clean it, but every time i put it back and look through the viewfinder the dust is still there, sometimes less and sometimes more of it. I even washed it with lukewarm water and a drop of detergent after a suggestion from a photographer friend but i can't seem to get rid of it!!
So it's either,
a) I suck at cleaning
b) dust gets stuck on the focusing screen in the short period of time i need to put it back in
b) dust is someplace else
Also before anyone calls me stupid for trying this myself, there aren't any professional technicians in my town. There is the Canon dealership, but i can't go there because i have issues with the owner. (they sell the 400D for $1300 plus kit lens!). So it's either a DIY job or ship it somewhere else for a couple of weeks.
So i'd love to hear any tips and tricks on how to clean the darn thing. I also have lots of dust on my sensor even from f9, but that doesn't annoy me as much and it's much easier to clean.
Thanks!
