Can I use just bog-standard glass cleaning spray for this? Or must I use some kind of specialist iPhone cleaning product for this?

I just use a little Windex sprayed on a paper towel. I never spray the Iphone with it, I spray the papertowel and I don't use much Windex.

I hope that helps

Eric

if you have a screen protector like the Crystal Film (anti-glare), you really don't need to ever clean it. just a thought...

Well, obviously have to clean it before I apply it, that's why I was asking :D

rubbing alcohol will get the oil/grease off the screen, followed by a shiner like windex.

IT'S GLASS

clean it the way you would clean glass

you don't need any special cleaners or solutions

people are just anal about it because it's an apple product
