Cleaning Trackpad?

Alright, so my trackpad is getting dirty and I wanted to know if i could use a moist paper towel or rubbing alcohal to wipe it and clean it up. I wasn't sure so i wanted ask.

Avoid rubbing alcohol, moist (not drenched dripping wet) towel should be ok.

Which one is more effective? Using the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser or use toothpaste? I've read this article from lifehacker (link below). Have anyone tried this method? Please let me know as I want to put the Marware trackpad protector once it is completely clean.
