Cleaning up and clearing ram

I have seen other forums where people recommend ONYX and I downloaded it and think its just not what I was looking for. Is there any other programs out there that do that same thing and my friend told me about clearing your RAM by pressing down certain buttons... does anyone know anything about this; is it bad, and what do I press?
