Clear iBook (And It\'s Real!)

IMHO

IMHO I think that this project, while interesting is ridiculous. Why anyone would want a ibook that looked like that is beyond me. I know I know, everyone has their own opinion, and this is mine. I would be embarrased to walk around with that thing. It looks uncomplete. This is a good trick if you want to take all the paot off to paint it a new color from the inside. But if you leave it like that.. you got problems. Again my opinion only please dont get mad at me for it. Sorry for being harsh too...sorry.

 
Actually, if you get past how it looks right now, this is actually a really clever idea as a "first step".

For example, with the white paint removed you could now paint the inside of the materials with any colors you want - even a mix of colors. Heck you could probably stick cartoon characters in there and then paint over them. This is cooler than the other projects we see around the internet where someone paints the outside.

Using this technique I could see some really creative (even if it was just to make a black one for example, looking iBooks. And the results would be you would keep the "gel"-like outside surface.

Clear iBook

This is a HORRIBLE idea... for this reason: If you apply isopropyl alcohol to polycarbonate, it will look fine... at first... but it will slowly begin to craze the plastic. In a couple weeks, this is really gonna look like crap!

Why?!

IMO that looks like total crap. It looks like a hacked up, ultra-geek, cludgey piece of junk.

But I guess by doing that you can paint the inside of the cover instead of the outside...oh well to each his own!
 
Just leave the bloody thing alone.

Look, will you just leave the bloody thing alone?? I mean, how many hours must this guy have spent painstakingly removing all that paint. Not to mention invalidating his warranty. It's not like it even looks any better! Ok, if you had a flower power iMac there might be a reason to try and remove the paint, but the dual USB iBook looks just great as it is.

...for his sake that it's part one in a project to repaint it a different color, post-haste!

 
I think it looks pretty cool, but then again I own a soldering iron. heh.
 
i think you guys

you guys are being a bunch of jerks in my opinion. Here's someone experimenting with some crazy wild stuff to see if it would work, and all you do is rail on him/her.

Why?

Let him/her be and see if they come up with more stuff. So, the clear idea isn't pretty enough for you, big deal! I think it looks kind of cool. Are you going tocall me an ultra-geek too?

Aside from the warranty thing...I think it's a cool idea to repaint it a different color. I give it up to the guy for figuring out how to do it. I can't wait to see what it would end up looking like...maybe some glow in the dark paint!

I don't think that I would be willing to do that to a computer of mine. But kudos for figgureing out how to remove the paint, also hope it doesn't ruin the plastic.

As for being a "super techno geek" or whatever, Some might think that as compliment.!!

 
Does anybody know if the side panels of the Power Mac G4 are of the same material as the top and bottom panels of the new iBook? I'd love to make the side panels of my G4 transparent, excepting the Apple logos.
