I own a 2.66 ghz i7 15" Macbook Pro. All software is up to date, and I don't modify system files. The computer runs fine almost all the time. However, it will almost always freeze (3 out of 4 times) if I log out and either shut the lid or click the sleep button on the log in menu.

The mouse will disappear, but the screen stays lit. I can control brightness with the f1 & f2 keys, but nothing else. If I shut the lid the screen with automatically turn off, but the computer will not go to sleep (the hhd & fans will continue to spin).

I've asked on the official Apple forums, but nothing's worked so far.

Edit: I can use the computer for months on end perfectly if I just sleep it while still logged in or shut it down when I'm done. The problem only ever occurs if I log out first, then hit the sleep button (or claim shell it).
