My MP 7,1 arrived today along with the XDR

I went through the entire setup process and then a notification appeared telling me that I needed to restart to install an update for the XDR

That was 30 minutes ago

The MP is on (light is on)

I press the trackpad and no response

I press keys on the keyboard and no response

I do not want to press the MP power button as I do not want to shut it down improperly

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this when first using their XDR/MP?

Thank you and be well

How do you know the MP isn’t in macOS but the display just not showing it? Do you have it connected to speakers not through the monitor? Try to see if you can get the volume clicks(shift plus volume keys). I’d say after it’s been an hour and a half, two hours at most (I have no idea how long such an update is meant to take but that seems far more than enough), unplug the monitor’s power and Thunderbolt connection, and plug it back in. I doubt it’s the MP but just the display.

There was no sound at all.
I text chatted with Apple technical support after waiting for an hour. The tech asked me to hold the MP power button down for 10 seconds - however, by this time, I noticed the MP power light was off

The tech had me just press it to turn it on and everything went back to normal (including the XDR Display update having taken hold)

So, perhaps it really takes an hour but, why would the screen go black rather than show a progress bar?

From what I've read, the display updates only take a few minutes. Sounds like yours just didn't come back to life after it was completed. No way it takes an hour. Even full OS installs take less time.

But regardless, glad it's all up and running again.

So I just booted up the MP and, after typing in my password, the XDR Display flashes on and off, along with some weird colors laid over the Catalina desktop photo and then logs me in
