Hey,

I have just noticed a weird clicking noise coming from the left hand side of my macbook. It only clicks when the macbook is being moved about or a sudden movement occurs. I thought it might be the HDD motion sensor but since its coming from the left hand side it's concerning me slightly.

Any Ideas,

Thanks.
Glen

Clicking is often a symptom of a dying hard drive. Run Disk Utility and see what its SMART status is.

Agreed
That would be my guess as well

Better make sure you have a backup now while you can
Don't wait till it is too late

Does it sound like this?

If so, that is the normal operation of the computer. The SMS triggers the drive to park the head for a moment, which can be especially loud in Hitachi drives.

So:
1. Does it sound like that?
2. Is your drive a hitachi?

You can check your drive by clicking the Apple in the menu, holding option and clicking System Profiler. Go to Serial-ATA and the maker of the drive is listed.

The HDD is under the right palmrest, not on the left side of the computer like the OP is describing. It doesn't make sense for the clicking to be coming from a totally different section of the computer.

Ooops, too bad the drive is also on the left hand side of the white unibody MacBooks too :p

It sounds exactly like that but quieter, the HDD is Hitachi. So I think its just the head parking to prevent damage.

Thanks For Everyone's Help.

P.S. Model is an A1342 MacBook.
