My new Macbook Pro occasionally makes a strange clicking noise. Not too loud. I can't really tell what's causing it or what it's coming from, but I'm 99.9% sure it's not the speakers. Ideas?

I would think it would have to be the hard drive too....since it should be the only moving part in your mac

I meant that the SMS was over sensitive. The SMS detects motion and stops the hard drive to prevent damage. Basically the computer thinks that you're dropping it whenever it makes the clicking noise. It's nothing bad at all, just sounds annoying.

Any easy fix or no?

Same here...

I also have this "feature." Randomly when moving my uMB, that clicking noise sounds. I assumed it was the hard drive fall safety thingy, and this seems to confirm that. What is interesting is that even when i try, I cannot get the machine to make the noise (e.g. moving the macbook quickly). It only happens unintentionally. Oh well

Ok, it's starting to get louder and more common. Really bugging me that this new almost $1600 computer is doing this. If it means something, it makes the noise much more often in osx mode than windows vista. (I've got boot camp.)

yeah, my 15" 2.4 does it .. and so does my 17" 2.66, in addition my girlfriends 13" does it as well (all 3 unibody) ..

its nothing to worry about, just the sudden motion sensor, i had my hard drive replaced because I was worried it was a problem and almost immediately it made the noise with the new HD
