Hi,
I'll make this really quick, I know this has risen it's head before.

I'm getting a couple of clicking noises from the front of my march 2009
Mac Pro every 30 mins or so. It really does not sound like a drive problem
to me, more of a kind of thermistat or heat/temp thing going on.
Am I right or should I be concerned?

Thanks.
Danny.

I don't own a Mac Pro so I can't say what the problem could be, but I'd definitely be concerned. The only times I've ever heard computers/iPods making a clicking noise is when hard drive failure is imminent. Even if you don't think that's the problem, I'd make sure you have a good backup solution going on!

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm very careful to back up as I use the mac for my work.
It does sound like a switch flicking. I'll see how it goes.

Thanks.
Danny.

could be the hard drive: Back up and then run techtools or the hardware test to rule out any issues.

If this doesn't reveal anything then take it to an applestore

It could also be the Optical drive cycling (IIRC, there's been mention of this before not that long ago). To test this possibility, pull the backplane cable from the drive, and see if the noise persists. ;)
