Hey

My computer (MBP 5,5) makes this sound several times throughout a day of use.
It sounds exactly like the little "click" sound the computer makes, when i close the lid and have it go into sleep mode.
I guess it's the hard drive going to sleep sound?

If i'm right, i really don't understand why the hard drive goes to sleep at these random times.

I've disabled that in System Preferences - at least i think so. It's this option, right?:

Also, my MBP is always (only use it as a desktop with an external monitor connected to it) on a mStand on my table, so it can't be the Sudden Motion Sensor either.

Am i misinterpreting something? Any ideas why my computer makes this sound?

Thanks

I've read a lot about other people having clicking sounds, when something was wrong with their hard drive, but the main thing i was confused about, is what that clicking sound of theirs sounds like.

Found some on a site though, will check them out.

I found this thread:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/752049/

This guy has the same clicking sound as me.

"I found a way of reproducing the click - turning the Sudden Motion Sensor (SMS) on makes a click, turn it off, makes a click again (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1934). Then I asked my friend to do the same on his MBP (same model) and his one didn't make the click. I'm getting a replacement."

Mine also click if i turn the SMS off or back on.

Can some of you please do we the great favor of trying this out, so i can see if is normal or not:

No harm will be done to your computer!

Thanks a bunch!

Hi, I have a MBP5,1 where I recently replaced the standard drive with a SSD and put the standard drive where the optical drive shall be. Since then I have the clicking problem. It always come when computer is turned on. But then it can come spontaneously.

I tried turning on and off. No sound.

I wound if this is applicable for me since the drive is the the optical bay?

One other thought. If putting the drive in an external caddy (both me and you), if the drive was broken then the click sound would appear too?

The click is the sudden motion sensor being activated. Nothing abnormal, mine does it to.
