Client loaded Mavericks OS 10.9

and now can't see her HD on the desktop like on 10.8. I tried to help her to get it to appear and can't. I see that her data is there by having her to go Finder, Go, Alt then library appears but I can't get to her root HD. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Need to make sure you have the Finder Preference enabled. (see attached image)
