I've just noticed that my laptop is losing time every time it goes to sleep. It's not a huge loss but enough to be annoying because reminders don't occur at the same instant on my laptop and my iPhone. It's been as bad as 2 mins slow recently (why it didn't correct itself when re-joining the network, I don't know). But even this morning, it had lost 8secs having been asleep overnight. I have it set to use a timeserver, obviously, but doesn't seem to matter which I use. I rarely remove my laptop from the power adapter - and definitely leave it on the power adapter all night.

It's quite old - it's a late 2008 MacBook Pro - and I know on old models the culprit would often be the PRAM battery, but I don't know if mine has one or if it's user replaceable.

What I really don't understand is, when the laptop wakes up and rejoins the network, you'd think one of the first things it would do would be to sync the time with the timeserver, but this doesn't seem to happen. If I go into the Date & Time prefpane and toggle the "auto" checkbox, it syncs immediately.

I should say that High Sierra is officially unsupported on this model, and I'm using @dosdude1's patching method as described in the unsupported macs thread, but thought the question deserved a wider audience.

Any suggestions?
