Clone and restore XP partition

Simple version: Is there a way (preferably free) to clone the XP partition on my MBP and then restore it even if the previous XP partition has changed in some way (size and or format)?

I can't update to Lion because of some changes I made to my MBP before installing Boot Camp way back when. I am away from home for a few weeks, and don't have access to my XP install discs. I want to clone my XP partition, reformat my HD and install Lion, then restore the clone to the new XP partition.

Possible?
